‘Tis the season for reflection

Hi there

December and January are usually my favourite time of the year - we have the festive season and the long, lovely days of summer complete with gorgeous food and even more gorgeous cocktails. There’s such a sense of optimism in the air as people reflect on the year past and are energised and excited by their plans for the year ahead. Are you ready to say ‘fare thee well, 2020, you shocker of a year’?

Yes, me too.

I wholeheartedly believe that the downtime afforded to many of us during the festive season and those first weeks of January are perfect for a bit of naval gazing and for taking the time and space to consider the year past, the lessons, learnings, challenges and opportunities. I have a number of resources to guide the process of setting yourself up for a successful year ahead:

Are you following your passion, professionally? Is this even the ideal? This post might prompt some wonderful musings for you to explore.

The people you surround yourself in business (and in life more broadly) can be signifiers of your success or otherwise. It sounds quite transactional, which isn’t my intention, but time away from the day to day is a great time to take stock of who is in your corner. Do they uplift and inspire? Is it reciprocal? This is especially important in terms of who you choose to partner with, no matter how casual the arrangement. If collaborations are on your horizons, please read this post first.

If work this year has felt like a slog, perhaps you’re not working in flow? This is one of my favourite concepts, and I explore it in this post.

Finally, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t include an entreaty for you to set yourself up for success by eating a good breakfast! Read more in this post.

It’s been a big year for me professionally. I’ve worked with an incredible mix of clients, women with businesses that are doing wonderful things in their zone of bliss. I’ve worked with women to think like a project manager as they’ve released new programs, I’ve helped women distinguish their purpose and their vision and I’ve supported women to adjust their pricing and offerings to truly value their worth.

Behind the scenes at Jo Grist HQ I’ve worked with my mentors to tweak my existing service offerings and create some fabulous new services and programs- shh… more shall be revealed in the new year!

All of the above not withstanding, I can’t lie - personally, the end of this year is approaching with an unmistakable sense of dread as I’m about to face a number of firsts since the loss of my soulmate Edwin earlier this year. It will be my first solo birthday, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, wedding anniversary, and I’m incredibly grateful to my circle who I know will fortify and support me through this time.

I know I’m not alone in seeing 2020 as a year like no other. So many clients, friends and colleagues have had a year that’s given them quite the bum-kicking. Please take the time this festive season to recenter and recalibrate, reset and refresh. Be gentle with yourself and take the pressure off - enjoy this time with you and yours. If 2021 is the year with your name on it, I’m here to help you reenergise your business and live a life you love. But first, rest up!
